Description

The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, design, development, timing and validation for closure components. This will include analysing the design to ensure it meets requirements and working with the extended vehicle team for production implementation and competitive bench-marking. This Product Engineering position will be within the Body Closure Systems group. The focus will be on side door handles, design, release, and validation.

Tasks

  • Manage parts from initial design, to prototype phase, and production.
  • Create and manage EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials), including material selection and finish.
  • Coordinate release of engineering changes, and appropriate documentation.
  • Provide weekly updates of progress, goals and road blocks.
  • Apply budget constraints as part of the engineering design process.
  • Able to work within a cross-functional team to achieve goals.
  • Verify styling theme feasibility (manufacturing, ergonomic, service, safety, regulatory etc.)
  • Understand and update Engineering documentation such as TES’s (Tech. Spec’s), DFMEA’s (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP’s (Design Verification Plan)
  • Able to coordinate and complete mock-up of parts for evaluation.
  • Able to work closely with suppliers to achieve goals.
  • Track open issues via issue tracking process, drive communication to closure of issues.
  • Plan for parts timing alignment with overall program timing plan.
  • Coordinate testing to validate seal design.
  • Excellent communication skills and team player approach required.
  • Consults with colleagues and supervisor as required.
  • Report and escalate major issues immediately to Supervisor.
  • Develop targets for investment (engineering and tooling) and piece cost
  • Able to develop criteria sections for future vehicles.
  • Conduct vehicle benchmark studies / technical research of competitive products, present findings and suggest recommendations.

Qualifications

  • +3 years of CATIA experience in automotive development. Preferably from Door in White system development.
  • High seniority with good leadership skills to lead others and/or project activities
  • Team Center experience within the automotive industry.
  • Good understanding of the early development phases from styling, through VI and finally the PSS.
  • Experience defining Technical Input for styling.
  • Master Sections development experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Chinese speaking skills are meritorious.
  • Experience of working directly with OEM onsite is preferable.
