Mechanical Design for exterior & Interior automotive.

Provides engineering design support for concept and production projects.

Description

• Translating engineering requirement into design possibilities
• Transferring and describing engineering and key legislative requirements to design
• Generate feasible solutions for technically challenging areas
• Managing and documenting agreements between design and engineering
• Being the voice of design, communicating design intents and needs within
engineering
• Understand and implement technical input and limitations in the design models
• Document feasibility of design themes and raise critical issues
• Arbitrate, drive and document agreements between engineering and design
• Help setting up design clay models regards to standing heights and wheel positions

Tasks

  • Work with Designers, Surfacing team and engineering partner to develop the feasibility of the Theme(s), including possible overlays.
  • Develop and monitor Primary and functional hardpoint datasets in Catia V5 to enable the designers to deliver feasible surfaces.
  • Feed the agreed Primary and Functional hardpoints in to Design, complete Catia V5 studies where there are conflicts to understand if the Design theme is achievable and work with Concepts, Engineering functions and/or development partner (supplier) to resolve the conflicts.
  • Maintain hardpoint/surface tracker/Top issues measles with latest status on designs acceptance and compliance of package and hardpoints.
  • Suggest alternative technologies/solutions to solve design challenges.
  • Check surfaces and feedback to surfacing and Design any errors prior to surface release.
  • Attend and represent Design at relevant technical meetings.
  • Complete Design overlay feasibility investigations, present back to Engineering/Project for inclusion in the project.
  • Support modelling with project data and hardpoints for development of bucks/models.
  • Work with the innovation department to validate and develop relevant innovations in to the Design theme.
  • Use existing Gap and Rad plans and liaise with the supplier to guide surfacing and design to feasible gaps and rads. Feedback to Designers where there are conflicts.
  • Work with the development partner to feedback any Engineering and manufacturing feasibility issues into Design.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of +15 years solid working experience from automotive industry is required.
  • Extensive automotive product concept and component engineering experience on
    Aesthetic sensitive areas.
  • An understanding of the engineering and validation processes for vehicle components
    and systems.
  • Experienced Design Studio Engineering required, with experience in leading a project for Studio Engineering.
  • Experience in Low volume, coachbuilding and/or show car projects.
  • They must have both Interior and Exterior studio engineering skills.
  • Experienced, highly skilled, Catia V5 Users.
  • Knowledge of latest Exterior automotive legislation and IVA legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to feedback to senior management using different formats, including Catia V5 and Microsoft office.
